Department of Computer Science offices and advanced computing laboratories are located in the Anderson Center, Rooms 139 and 131/135, respectively. Completed in 1986, the Anderson Center provides an excellent facility for the Computer Science Department. Another computer laboratory is located in Miriam Hall RM 21A, and is specially geared to the beginning computer science student.
Sun Workstations (running UNIX): The Department of Computer Science has an impressive collection of state-of-the-art equipment. There are currently 15 high-performance Sun SPARCstation systems available for CPS students. These systems support various software development and networking tools. OPNET Modeler simulation software and Oracle database software are two programs available on these systems.
Personal Computers: The department has three laboratories of workstations and high-end PCs, which are networked together to provide access to departmental and University computing equipment from any station.
NT Network: Students begin their computing experience in a Windows NT laboratory. Thirty-two Pentium Windows NT Workstations operate as clients to an NT Server. Students are introduced to beginning programming in this classroom environment, where instructors demonstrate lessons while students, each having their own workstation, practice lessons as they are being taught. Classes are given in introductory computing and in programming in Visual C++.
Novell Networks: All labs are networked together into a department LAN through NetWare's Novell 4.1. This network is then inter-networked to various other Novell LANs throughout the university. Not only does this network provide students and faculty with another networking experience, but also it serves as a connection to nearly every other campus workstation.
