Dean and Associate Deans
Paul H. Benson, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (937-229-2611) Dean Benson is chief administrator for the College of Arts and Sciences. He is a professor of philosophy.
Donald L. Pair, Associate Dean for Integrated Learning and Curriculum (937-229-2602) The Associate Dean for Integrated Learning and Curriculum is responsible for the oversight of general education and for a range of programs that connect the Schools with the College. Donald J. Polzella, Associate Dean for Faculty Development and Graduate Programs (937-229-2602) Dean Polzella is responsible for oversight of faculty development for full and part-time faculty, orientation for new faculty, and development of new chairs and program directors. STUDENT ACADEMIC AFFAIRS CENTER
Provides academic guidance, support and service to students and support to the academic departments, faculty, and University administrators.
Assistant Deans
John Erdei, Assistant Dean (937-229-2604) Dean Erdei assists students in the humanities, excluding communication, and in the natural sciences, including undeclared sciences. He works with these students throughout their academic careers. He acts as liaison with the professional schools and the Office of Student Development for his students, and is involved in the development of advising workshops for College faculty. Ricki Huff, Assistant Dean (937-229-2603) Dean Huff assists students in the social sciences as well as undeclared arts students, A through K. She works with these students throughout their academic careers. She acts as liaison with the professional schools and the Office of Student Development for her students, and is involved in the development of advising workshops for College faculty. She serves as a mentor to the other class deans and continues to review and develop procedures and policies for the Office of the Dean. She has an office with many interesting items which students have brought from their study abroad in many countries. Everyone’s favorite is her five-foot tall bear, Bertha. Tim Wilbers, Assistant Dean and Class Dean (937-229-2603) Dean Wilbers assists students majoring in the arts, communication, music, and theatre. He also assists undeclared arts students, L through Z. He works with these students throughout their academic careers. He acts as liaison with the professional schools and the Office of Student Development for his students, and is involved in the development of advising workshops for College faculty. Provides academic guidance and service to the adult learners and supports special programs on campus.
Assistant Dean
Julie Mitchell, Assistant Dean of Special Programs and Continuing Education (937-229-2605)
Ms. Mitchell oversees Academic Enrichment Studies (AES), which offers course enrollment to adult students who are interested in taking an undergraduate course for personal enrichment, for professional development, to transfer back to a home institution, or to sample a University of Dayton course before officially applying.
In addition, Ms. Mitchell manages opportunities at the University of Dayton for senior adults, and works with the College of Arts and Sciences to develop non-credit programs, workshops and seminars.
