The University of Dayton experience is far more than coursework - you will find a number of unique opportunities offered by each department and program. Getting involved with activities, programs and events sponsored by the Department of Computer Science will allow you to apply the knowledge you learn in the classroom, give you the chance to interact with faculty members and other students in your major, build your resume for future endeavors, and overall, enhance your learning experience. Take advantage of what the Department of Computer Science has to offer:
- The Department of Computer Science supports a student chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). Click here to learn more about this national association.
- CPS students enjoy a close interaction with faculty members.
- Many of our majors qualify for the ACM international computing machinery programming team. UD has been in the top five percent of schools in the US in the regional contest and have attended the world finals, one of only fifty-two universities in the world chosen to attend.
- A variety of internships prepare students for careers in the software industry. Also, many students obtain co-op jobs, where they are able to achieve real world experience while completing their education. Approximately fifty percent of these co-op students are hired permanently by their employers upon graduation.
- Students at both undergraduate and graduate levels are always welcome to do research with faculty in a diverse selection of research topics, including but not limit to: artificial intelligence; networking; multimedia systems; and human factors. Visit the research page to see what faculty are currently doing.
- The Learn, Lead and Serve Program provides opportunities for student research support in the College of Arts and Sciences. Students who receive LLS support work together with a faculty mentor in pursuing research questions that expand upon their learning in the classroom, and result in finished projects that have both leadership and service potential. Click here to learn more about the Learn, Lead and Serve Program.
- Many of our majors have published in prominent journals and presented at international conferences.
