A symposium focused on optimal health, well-being, and other issues affectig older adults will be presented by the University of Dayton.  The Duane W Chapman Symposium, October 8, 2007, begins at 8:30 a.m. in the Kennedy Union. This fifth biennial event is hosted by UD's Special Programs and Continuing Education and its Osher Institute for Lifelong Learning (UDLLI).

Keynote speaker, Dr. Michael Hewitt from Canyon Ranch has expertise in exercise physiology with specialties in body composition, cardiometabolic assessment and physiology, exercise for bone health, optimal aging, exercise for weight loss and practical exercise programming which have made him a much sought-after spaker for groups around the world. A recognized exercise and health expert, Dr. Hewitt has been consistently invited to present at the International Longevity Center Symposium, YPO Forums, University of Arizona Integrative Medicine Program Seminars and American College of Sports Medicine National Meetings. He is a popular keynote speaker for Speaking of Women's Health.

In 1997, the University of Dayton received an endowment gift from the Retirement Research Foundation in Chicago, the nation's largest private foundation solely devoted to aging and retirement issues. The endowment was made in the name of Duane W. Chapman, parent and grandparent of UD Alumni.

The University established the Duane W. Chapman Symposium, following the endowment's directives that biennial symposiums focus on trends and research in gerontology and feature nationally known experts in the field. We are grateful to the Chapman family and the Retirement Foundation for choosing the University of Dayton for this endowment.

Morning and afternoon workshops offer sessions on arthritis, art of massage, fitness, depression and much more. The day begins with a continental breakfast, includes a delicious luncheon, and closes with a wine and cheese reception.

Enrollment will be limited to 300 participants. Be sure to take advantage of this opportunity to hear and share in the wealth of information that these professionals will be presenting.
