The University of Dayton's New Horizons Band offers adults, 50 and better, the opportunity to begin a musical instrument, or a 're-entry' point for those who have been away from active music-making for many years. A one hour full band experience with all instruments will be offered once a week. Instruments include oboe, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone, tuba, bassoon and percussion.

The New Horizon Band teaching philosophy is based on the principles of developing good tone, rhythmic feeling and playing by ear before reading music. Members will be taught in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere as well as find opportunities to meet new friends have events to look forward to, and become an important part of a group.

The University of Dayton's New Horizons Band is a musical senior program that:

• Was organized in 2000
• Supports beginning as well as advanced bands.
• Is part of the University of Dayton's acclaimed Department of Music.
• Uses University of Dayton music majors as teachers.
• Band Rehearsals meet at Reichard Hall, Thursdays from 8:45 a.m. to 10 a.m. during Fall and Winter; 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. during Summer
• Provides at least one community concert per session
• Follows the University of Dayton Academic and Holiday Schedule
• Directed by Professor and Coordinator of Music Education, Dr. Linda Hartley
• Sheet music provided by the band
