Students at the University of Dayton are provided many opportunities to enhance their history learning experience. Getting involved with activities, programs and events sponsored by the Department of History allows our majors to apply classroom learning. There are many chances to interact with faculty members and other students. Emphasis on both factual knowledge and methodology create a well-rounded and solid base for our graduates. Some of the opportunities for academic and professional growth of our students include:
- Courses in new fields such as legal history, business history, and the history of science.
- The chance to join Phi Alpha Theta, the international honor society in history.
- The opportunity to win department awards.
- A number of internship opportunities in local historical societies, government agencies and business firms.
- Opportunities to co-op with the Dayton Federal Records Center and the history office at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
- The option of a program for teacher licensure through the School of Education and Allied Professions.
