Who can participate in the Bonner Leader Program?
First and second year students, Dayton Civic Scholars and Semester of Service alumni.
What is required of a Bonner Leader?
Bonner Leaders are required to participate in:
- an orientation to the program,
- 8-10 hours per week of service in the Dayton community for two years or 4 semesters,
- attend monthly reflection meetings,
- participate in an intense summer service experience (i.e. Semester of Service program OR a summer immersion experience through the Center for Social Concern.)
What are the benefits to being a part of the Bonner Leader Program?
By participating in an orientation to the program, 8-10 hours per week of service in the Dayton community for two years or four semesters, attending monthly reflection meetings, and participating in an intense summer service experience (i.e. Semester of Service program OR a summer immersion experience through the Center for Social Concern), students earn a $2,362.50 AmeriCorps Education Award for the 900 hours of service and training they participate in.
Can I use Federal Work Study hours for my 8-10 hours of service per week?
If you are eligible for Federal Work Study, the 8-10 hours of service you do in the community may also count for your work study hours, thereby allowing you to earn your work study stipend for the same 8-10 hours that go towards your 900 hour/$2,362.50 AmeriCorps Education Award.
Who chooses the agency where I perform my service?
You can earn service hours through your choice one of the service clubs or organizations on campus or at another approved service partner in the Dayton community.
