The program will select men and women who:
- Are committed to service, as evidenced by previous student or community volunteer experiences
- Exemplify the core values of Semester of Service - social responsibility, appreciation of diversity, creative problem solving, flexibility and teamwork
Are respectful of the urban neighborhoods and their residents and are committed to improving inner‑city Dayton communities
- Are experienced in working with diverse project teams
- Are accountable
- Can contribute meaningfully to small group discussions
- Demonstrate leadership skills and an ability to motivate others
- Provide evidence of successful performance in previous employment or volunteer work
- Can demonstrate listening skills, acceptance of diversity and cooperative behavior
- Are available to be involved 40 hours per week over a period of one term with the goal of accumulating 450 hours of participation throughout the program
Applicants Must:
- Hold U.S. citizenship or other lawful authorization to work in the United States
- Be drug free at the time of appointment. Semester of Service abides by drug‑free workplace policies
- Have no criminal record or prove that existing records will not interfere with job duties
- Have the ability to access transportation, including public transportation, to work site and community‑based work assignment. Some projects may require the use of the member's own vehicle
