Mathematics might be defined as the science which attempts to quantify and study form, order and pattern in the physical world and in the world of ideas. Although most people associate mathematics with its applications or its role as a medium of communications in various disciplines, it is primarily a basic science in its own right. Vigorous mathematical discovery and research have engaged the mind of man for centuries and will continue to do so.
