Welcome!

Selecting a college or university is a major decision.  Perhaps you have already done this with another son or daughter.  If so, you know that most four-year institutions seem to be similar in their publicity and in the material they make available to prospective students.  The best way to determine if a school is the right “fit” is to visit campuses, tour student residences, eat the cafeteria food, sit in on classes, and ask the questions that are important to you.

At the University of Dayton, you will find an open, supportive community of active faculty and learners.  This is an environment where students receive the academic and social guidance to make choices and find their career paths.  We understand the challenge of being a new student, the uncertainty young adults feel as they enter college.  In fact, forty percent of our students come to UD in undeclared categories.  We design a curriculum which emphasizes general education, skill building, and exploration during the first year so that students receive a strong educational foundation and can still change their academic directions without loss of credits or time in completing a four-year degree program.

The Admissions staff will describe us as friendly.  You will find that to be true, but we have so much more to offer.  Classes are small enough to assure close personal contact between students and faculty members.  All students have an academic advisor to guide them in their choices from the first week of class until graduation. There is even the possibility for students to work closely with scientists in their research or work independently with talented artists and painters.  In addition, strong support services exist for students who may experience academic difficulty.  This includes tutoring, a professional counseling staff, and an office for students with documented learning or physical disabilities.  And as a Catholic and Marianist university, UD sets as its highest priority creating opportunities for the moral and spiritual growth of students, no matter what their personal religious traditions might be.

We hope to see you on campus.  We hope you come loaded with questions.  You will find UD to be a unique place which translates the eye-catching appeal of publicity into a vibrant academic community that challenges students, supports their growth, and prepares them for the next steps in their personal and professional lives.

For now, we recommend you begin your exploration with the section entitled Foundation for Learning.  There you will find information on general education, what to expect in the first-year, the role of the advisor, and much more.

When you are ready, jump to Academic Programs and begin gathering degree, major, and department specific information.

Finally, take some time to read about the many Unique Opportunities available to UD students.
